This all-new arrangement of the classic carol “Good Christian Men Rejoice” sets the familiar English text by John Mason Neale against the backdrop of Latin quotations from “In dulci jubilo” (which uses the same melody with text attributed to the German mystic Heinrich Seuse, c.1328). Seuse’s macaronic (language-mixing) lyric features alternating lines of text in German and Latin, and was later rewritten as an English/Latin hybrid by Robert Pearsall in 1837. In this arrangement, these traditions are melded together.
